Kathmandu: Monsoon conditions continue to intensify across Nepal, with the low-pressure monsoon line currently positioned near the central region of the country. According to the Weather Forecasting Division of the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, this system is expected to bring widespread rainfall and potential weather-related hazards over the coming days.

At present, most parts of the country are experiencing partly to generally cloudy skies. Light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning has been reported in several areas of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces.

The Division forecasts that during the afternoon, the weather will remain cloudy with the possibility of light to moderate rain across many parts of the country. In particular, Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces are expected to see scattered rainfall, while heavy rain is likely at one or two locations in the hilly areas of Koshi and Gandaki. In the high-hilly and mountainous regions, there is also a chance of light to moderate snowfall.

Tonight, generally cloudy skies will persist across Nepal. Light to moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning is expected at many locations in Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, and Sudurpaschim provinces, and at some places in other provinces. The Division has also warned of the likelihood of heavy to very heavy rainfall at one or two locations within these areas. High-hill and mountainous zones may also witness snowfall along with rainfall.

Given the forecast, the Weather Forecasting Division has issued a public alert urging citizens to remain cautious. The predicted heavy rains may lead to soil erosion, floods, flash floods, and landslides, particularly in hilly and urban regions. There is also a risk of inundation in Terai areas due to rising water levels in rivers and streams.

The Division has warned that these weather conditions could significantly impact daily life, agriculture, public health, tourism, construction near riverbanks, and transportation—both road and air. All concerned agencies and the general public have been requested to take necessary safety measures and make early preparations to mitigate potential damages.
